k. so im feeling weird right now. classes start tomorrow, or today, rather. im ready, i think. except for my religions profressor who just now emailed us about an extra 75 we are supposed to pay for like our syllabus or some bullshit. i know what you are thinking. retarded. and you are right. and a helicoptor just flew by my house. which reminds me that USC is dumb. and that sentence just reminded me that school i s starting anf i should probably learn how to write again.. o peter oneill i still spite you so for your guantanamo bay essays. anyway, more about usc.
um since when is there no partying in college. im just wondering. i mean, call me crazy, but it happens. and attempting to limit it, or in steven sample and LAPD's case, totally eliminating it, will only add to the private partying. i mean that is blatant here. why are these people so dumb.
ok here we go. these are quotes taken from 'the daily trojan'
Undercover Los Angeles Police Department officers will patrol the North University Park area starting this fall as part of an initiative to reduce alcohol-related incidents around the USC area, DPS officials said.
this is lame. how about you get undercover cops to patrol the streets and keep kids from getting mugged and raped. or maybe you could go down the 110 about a mile and try to stop all the drive by killings... just a thought. the majority of the people involved in any sorts of "incidents around usc" are kids completely sober minding their own business who then get jumped by thugs. welcome to south central. and another thing. all of these 'alcohol related incidents" are most likely involving student to student contact, and thats a whole different problem to begin with.
By cracking down on parties and excessive drinking around USC, there would be less of a drain on resources when patrol units are forced to respond to a nuisance complaint, Graham said.
oh i get it. the only reason that you came in and busted every party on thursday with 10 officeres for each frat, and used a helicopter to explain via bullhorn that "the party is over" was to limit future drains on resources when alllll the domestic mothers around usc call and complain about loud noises. im pretty sure anyone that calls lapd to complain, is calling in reference to the sirens that are always within earshot.
"The long-term goal is to educate folks," Surendranath said. "You can drink, you can party, but you can do it in a responsible manner."
thats thoughtful. im pretty sure that people with an average sat score of 1400 and higher (pre crazy knew 2400 possible sat) know what the risks and consequences are. i do. granted, maybe everyone doesnt. but by trying to limit those who dont know anything about alcohol, you are most liekly going to make it worse. they are going to rebel and go even more crazy on their own terms and probabl turn out a whole lost worse off than they would be, if say, they went to a few frat parties with their friends where they had people looking out for them. the majority of the students here are not dumb and i think it is insulting to treat them this way.
i understand the long term goal here, and that they only are trying to make it safer, but i truly think that this is the wrong way. not just because im a little stupid girl who likes to go to the row and get drunk. because if you want to get drunk, you are going to find a way to do it. thats not what this is about. its about people trusting that people, especailly intelligent students, to handle themselves. its completey understandable for usc to want to keep things under control. so do that. dont send helicopters in and start another prohibition just so usc can move towards being considered the next yale. you have to attract students for that to happen. and this whole new little policy, i can assure you, will not attract anyone. college is about learning. yes, school work is the most important thing. you are here to get an education, and you will get a fine one at that. but you have to learn about life, too. you have to get wasted and puke your brains out to realize 'hey i was way too drunk for my own good'. and you should be able to have fun, man. let loose and go crazy when you want. this is cliche and common sense, but it really seems like president sample is forgetting this. most likely, im way over reacting and this whole thing was just a ploy to get kids to calm down a little, and to perhas help induce a dry rush period. in which case i will eat my words. kbye.
i have a lot more to say. and most of it is about being in love with someone 2500 miles away and not knowing what to do and constantly questioning myself and being confused and angry because i cant fix this problem. but he is coming here in 8 days. i cant wait and as girly as it sounds, my stomach feels like its the first day of kindergarten everytime i think about it.
